Aleem Khan Orders Immediate Road Restoration in Northern Pakistan After Heavy Rains & Landslides

ISLAMABAD, August 15, 2025 – Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has directed urgent action to restore damaged road networks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) following recent monsoon rains and devastating landslides.

According to an official statement, the Minister instructed the Federal Secretary for Communications and the Chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA) to personally visit the affected regions and supervise emergency repair operations. He emphasized that all available resources, including machinery and manpower from Punjab and Sindh, must be mobilized without delay.

Aleem Khan highlighted that several key highways and link roads have been severely disrupted, cutting off access to travelers and local communities. He ordered NHA teams to begin clearance and rehabilitation work immediately, stressing that no time should be wasted in restoring connectivity.

“The current wave of monsoon rains has created an alarming situation. Our top priority is to reopen blocked routes, remove landslides, and ensure the safety of commuters,” the Minister stated.

Priority Areas for Road Restoration

The Minister directed NHA to remain fully active in northern districts, particularly Skardu, Jaglot, Buner, and multiple parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, where traffic has been suspended due to landslides. He further advised that alternative routes should be arranged where direct access is not possible, ensuring continuity of transport and supply lines. A detailed progress report on restoration efforts in Gilgit-Baltistan has also been demanded on an urgent basis.

Condolences and Assurance of Support

Expressing grief over the loss of lives caused by the heavy rains in Buner and nearby areas, Aleem Khan extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He also expressed sorrow over the recent KPK government helicopter crash, which resulted in multiple casualties.

The Minister assured that every possible measure will be taken to assist travelers and residents during this crisis. He emphasized the need for timely public updates on relief efforts to ensure transparency and public trust.

Continued Emergency Operations

Aleem Khan reiterated that the NHA must continue emergency operations until traffic flow and public safety are fully restored. He stressed that restoring travel facilities across the northern areas is critical not only for residents but also for the region’s tourism and economic activity.
