FIA Introduces AI-Powered Immigration App to Speed Up Travel and Combat Smuggling
ISLAMABAD – August 22, 2025: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered application designed to streamline immigration procedures and curb human smuggling, with the first rollout planned at Islamabad International Airport.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was briefed on the initiative during a meeting at the FIA Headquarters, where officials reviewed progress on the agency’s digital transformation and modernization agenda.
Smoother Immigration, Stronger Security
FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar explained that the AI-driven system will reduce long queues for passengers while enhancing the agency’s ability to detect trafficking attempts and fake documents.
Calling the project “the need of the hour,” Minister Naqvi said the technology would not only save time for travellers but also strengthen Pakistan’s fight against human smugglers. He approved immediate funding for IT upgrades and ordered urgent renovation of the FIA Headquarters.
New Measures for FIA Capacity Building
The minister directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to hand over land for the FIA Academy without delay.
Recruitment on all vacant approved posts will be initiated to overcome staffing shortages.
All official notices will soon be issued with QR codes for transparency.
FIA has already transitioned to an e-office system, reducing reliance on paper-based processes.
Naqvi stressed:
“I will provide all necessary resources, but in return, performance must be delivered.”
Strengthening Border Management
The FIA chief informed that amendments to the FIA Act had been completed, giving the agency more legal powers against traffickers.
In October 2023, FIA partnered with the European Union and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to establish a second-line border control office at Islamabad Airport. The facility is equipped with advanced forensic and IT tools to detect forged travel documents and monitor smuggling networks.
The launch of this AI-based immigration application marks another milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to modernize border management, improve passenger experience, and dismantle human trafficking rings.
