UK Announces £1.33m Aid for Pakistan’s Monsoon Flood Relief

ISLAMABAD – August 22, 2025: The United Kingdom has pledged £1.33 million in humanitarian assistance to support Pakistan’s response to the devastating 2025 monsoon floods, which have caused heavy rains, landslides, and displacement across multiple regions.

According to the British High Commission in Islamabad, the funding will address immediate and early recovery needs. The aid package includes food rations, mobile medical camps, search and rescue support, rehabilitation of drinking water systems, restoration of irrigation channels, and livelihood assistance.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the UK is working with federal and provincial authorities to deliver urgent relief.

“Through UK-funded programmes, vital assistance is reaching communities impacted by floods and landslides. The UK remains committed to strengthening Pakistan’s disaster response and resilience,” she said.

Relief Impact

The aid will benefit over 223,000 people across seven flood-hit districts in Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

  • 2,400 volunteers have been trained in search and rescue operations.

  • In Charsadda, 25 trained volunteers joined Rescue 1122 teams in Buner, helping rescue trapped families.

  • Mobile medical camps are being set up where health facilities were damaged.

  • Displaced families are receiving food supplies, shelter kits, and dignity packs for women.

Building Long-Term Resilience

The UK’s support also extends to disaster preparedness. Under the Subnational Governance Programme with UNDP, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Wings have been set up in Sindh at provincial and district levels. A disaster preparedness dashboard has also been developed for the Sindh PDMA, improving coordination of shelters, medical resources, and rescue equipment.

The British High Commission highlighted that these measures reaffirm the UK’s partnership with Pakistan in addressing climate-related emergencies and building resilient disaster management systems.
